Mary Alice Beach Park

If you’ve never been to Cumming, you’re missing out. Located only about a half hour from Atlanta, this quaint little town is full of activities for everyone in the family. Hike the Beach Trail

This one is a must. This is one of the best trails in the area, and it’s also one of the easier trails to get to. It’s a short walk from the park’s entrance to the beach. The trail winds its way through a dense forest and then winds its way through a swatch of coastal wetlands. As you pass through the wetlands, you get a great view of Lake Allatoona. This trail is also an easy hike for families with kids of all ages. With plenty of stairs to climb, there are also plenty of benches to rest on if you need to. The trail is a bit rocky but offers a beautiful view of the lake. You can also walk your dog here and enjoy the tranquility while you and your pup relax.

Play on the Playground

In addition to hiking the beach trail, you can also hike to the playground. This is a great option for families with younger kids who might not be ready to hike more than a mile to a beach. The playground here is part of the 600-acre Mary Alice Nature Preserve. It offers a wonderful place to explore while you’re in the park. There are plenty of play structures here so you can let your kids run wild. There are also plenty of picnic tables to rest on while you let them explore. If you’re feeling more adventurous, there’s also a fishing pier and a fishing area to try your hand at catching a fish.

Go Kayaking or Canoeing

Explore the lake from the water. This is a fun activity for families and individuals of all ages. Rent kayaks or canoes at nearby Ben Hill Boat Ramp for about $28 for six hours.
