Northeast Georgia History Center

The Northeast Georgia History Center is more than just a museum. It is located at 322 Academy St NE, Gainesville, GA 30501.  It’s an extension of the community that surrounds it and a gateway for visitors from around the world with a passion for history. Whether you live in Gainesville or are just passing through, we’re sure you’ll find something interesting and enjoyable at our center! The Northeast Georgia History Center is the first Museum of its kind in North America, highlighting the region’s rich history through interactive exhibits, historic buildings and artifacts, videos, films, music and more. The center features nearly 50 exhibits that showcase Gainesville and Northeast Georgia as well as its Civil War Memorial Park. In addition to being a great place to learn about our town and region, we think the center is also a great place to spend a day if you’re looking for outdoor activities with your family or friends. Learn about the history of Gainesville and Northeast Georgia

The center’s mission is to be a place where everyone can learn about the unique history of Northeast Georgia. At the center, you’ll find interactive exhibits, historic buildings and artifacts that give you a closer look at how people lived and worked over the years in Northeast Georgia. We also have a number of videos, films, and materials that help you learn more about the people of the past. Our team has traveled across North America and the world to collect and preserve artifacts that tell the stories of Northeast Georgia’s past. We also have access to special collections and archives at universities and other archives that can help us tell the stories of Northeast Georgia’s history in new and exciting ways. Take an audio tour of our exhibits

Would you rather have someone show you around instead of reading about it? We can help with that too! Our audio tours allow you to explore many of our exhibits without actually being in the building. Each tour takes place in the visitor center and you can hear the audio through headphones or your phone. Our audio tours are narrated by our knowledgeable staff, and they can answer questions you have while you’re learning. Some of our audio tours include:

Browse the store for authentic historical items

You’ll find lots of items in our store that tell the story of Northeast Georgia and the people who lived here. You can find postcards, books, maps, authentic clothing, and other items that give you a deeper understanding of the area’s history. Our store is also a great place to buy gifts for loved ones who have a passion for history. A great place to also visit.

Go on a Heritage Walking Tour of Gainesville

Are you a history buff who wants to explore the city’s historic neighborhoods and learn more about its history? The Northeast Georgia History Center can help you with that too! We’re partnering with local historians to offer an eight-stop Heritage Walking Tour of Gainesville. Each tour explores a different part of the city, and it’s a great way to explore the neighborhoods and learn about the people who built them. The tour begins and ends at the Northeast Georgia History Center, and you’ll get free admission on this tour while you’re with us. The tour costs $25 to reserve in advance, so reserve your spot today!
