The History of Wyndham Farms, Georgia

Wyndham Farms is named after William Wyndham who purchased a large piece of land in the area in 1875. The town itself was founded in the 1970s by Wyndham Farms Raceway, a thoroughbred racing facility that shut down in 2009. This, and the township’s proximity to Atlanta, makes it somewhat of an anomaly; it’s a small, rural, and artsy community. This makes it a perfect getaway for visitors looking for something a little different than the usual tourist traps. Wyndham Farms is also the site of the first private wind farm in the U.S. When Wyndham Farms Raceway shut down, their owners decided to convert the land from a racing track to a wind farm and create a sustainable source of clean energy. All in all, Wyndham Farms has quite a history, and you can learn more about it by visiting the Wyndham Farms History Center.
